పేర్లలో తప్పులు తేడాలు ఉంటే చెప్పండి. భారత ఉపఖండంలోని పక్షుల వివరాలకి గూగుల్‌ బుక్స్‌లో ఉన్న ఈ పుస్తకం పాఆఆత పుస్తకమే కానీ మాలాంటి కొత్త బిచ్చగాళ్ళకి బాగానే పనికొస్తుందనిపించింది. వివిధ భారతీయ భాషల్లో పక్షుల పేర్లకి మాత్రమే ఐతే ఈ వెబ్సైటు బాగుంది.

Please let us know if there are any discrepencies/variations in names. I just came across this book in google books, which seems to be good reference, though a very old one, for birds in Indian subcontinent, especially to newbies like us. Vernacular names of indian birds can be found here.

Osprey with fish!

టెనొరాక్‌ అనీ, కొన్నేళ్ళ క్రితం మూసేసిన ఒక మైన్‌సైటులో తీసాం ఫొటో. ఇలా పక్షులు చేపలని వేటాడటం చూడటమూ, ఫొటో తీయడమూ కూడా ఇదే మొదటిసారి మాకు. దగ్గరలోనే రెండు గూళ్ళు ఉండటం వల్ల, ఆస్ప్రే(సముద్రపుకాకి - పేరులోనే తప్ప ఇంకెక్కడా కాకికి సంబంధం లేదు, లేక కొరమీను గద్ద(?) ) తన పిల్లలకి ఆహారం కోసం వేటాడుతుందని అనుకున్నాం.

మీకు తెలుసా:
1. ఒక గూటిలో పిల్లా పెద్దా కలిసి రోజుకి 7-8 చేపలు తింటాయని? ఆడ ఆస్ప్రే పిల్లల దగ్గెర  ఉంటే, మగపక్షి రోజస్తమాను ఈ  వేట  హడావిడిలోనే ఉంటుందేమో ఇంక.
2. ఈ పక్షులు ఒకసారి జంటకట్టాయంటే సాధారణంగా జీవితాంతం కలసుంటాయని?

తెలుగు పేర్లకి ఆంధ్రభారతి, DSAL వెబ్సైట్లలో ఉన్న నిఘంటువులు, ENVIS వెబ్సైటు చూశాను. తప్పులు/తేడాలు ఉంటే చెప్పండి.

This picture was taken at a closed down mine site, now transformed into a fish management area and a great site for bird and random wildlife viewing. We were fortunate to witness and photograph (our first time) the hunting of Osprey (sea hawk) by diving into water to catch the fish! Spectacular! We saw a couple of osprey nests nearby and figured that it is breeding season and the osprey is hunting for the babies.

Do you know that:
1. Ospreys and babies in a nest will eat 7-8 fish per day? Guess the male bird will be busy almost all day hunting while the female stays close to the nest.
2. Ospreys usually mate for life?

పైన్‌ ఐలాండ్‌లో ఈ సీగల్‌లు చాలా ఉన్నయి. చలిగా ఉన్నందువల్ల అన్నీ గుంపుగా ఎండకి ఎదురుగా నించున్నాయి.

పెలికాన్ పక్షి (చింకబాతు)

పెలికాన్ పక్షులకి కాళ్ళు బాతు కాళ్ళలాగా ఉంటాయని నాకు ఈ ఫొటో చూసేవరకూ తెలియదు. wildlife photography లోకి ఇదే నా అరంగేట్రం. I hope to do more of this. సెయిన్ట్ పీట్ బీచ్ దగ్గర చాలా పెలికాన్ పక్షులు ఉన్నాయి.
