కూర్మం/కమఠం/తాబేలు
ఫ్లోరిడా రెడ్-బెల్లీ ఎక్కువగా చెరువులు, నీటిబుగ్గలు, వాగుల దగ్గెర గట్ల మీద చెట్ల మీద ఇలా వెచ్చని ఎండని అస్వాదిస్తూ కనిపిస్తుంటాయి. రూపురేఖల్లో పెనింసులా కూటర్/ఫ్లోరిడా కూటర్ అనే చుట్టాన్ని పోలి ఉంటుంది. ఆహారం నాచు, నీళ్ళల్లో పెరిగే మొక్కలు. పెంపుడు జంతువులుగానూ, అహారంగానూ కూడా ఎగుమతి అవుతూంటాయి(ట). గుడ్లు పెట్టేటప్పుడు ఒకోసారి వెళ్ళి దగ్గర్లో ఉండే మొసలి గూడులో పెట్టేసి వచ్చేస్తుంది, ఆ గుడ్ల రక్షణ కోసం. మొసలి ఈ గుడ్లు కూడా తన గుడ్లే అనేసుకుని జాగ్రత్తగా పొదిగేస్తుంది. అచ్చం మన కోకిల వెళ్ళి కాకి గూట్లో గుడ్లు పెట్టినట్టు. వివరాల్లో తప్పులు/తేడాలు ఉంటే తెలియపరచగలరు.
Florida Redbelly is often seen basking on logs and shores along lakes, ponds, slow-flowing streams. It is closely related to the Peninsula Cooter/Florida Cooter. Aquatic vegetarian. Commonly exported for pet trade and consumption. These turtles sometimes lay their eggs in its neighbor's (alligator) nesting mounds, to protect them from predators. Alligator, thinking those are hers, protects and hatches them. Just like cuckoo eggs in crow's nest.
